Match the Michigan business behind the quotation

Start with the company name printed on the quotation, the person discussing the work and any credential number supplied. Compare those identifiers with the published business information. If they differ, ask the business to explain the relationship before assuming that records for a similarly named person refer to the proposed contractor.

Michigan AG advice points to LARA verification using the builder’s number, name and business name. That route is a consumer check; this directory has not established the credentials of every listed business.

Ask what the stated protection and finished repair include

“Insured” does not describe the promised repair result. Michigan’s AG advises asking what the stated insurance covers. Keep that question separate from the workmanship and written promises you are comparing.

For a window or door request, describe the operating problem and ask what is included: adjustment, replacement parts, surrounding trim and final finish can be different portions of an offer. Ask which result the proposal is intended to achieve and what would require a revised scope. The service guides help frame the inquiry; they do not diagnose the opening.

Keep the city route and written promise together

Detroit, Grand Rapids, Ann Arbor and Traverse City are distinct directory locations. Select the project city, then read the business’s own stated territory and ask about the actual address. A Michigan heading does not establish statewide travel or an available visit.

The AG recommends putting verbal promises into the signed agreement. If your discussion includes cleanup, a return visit or a particular finish, ask where that commitment appears in the proposal before relying on it.

Michigan project questions

Which names should I compare in a Michigan license lookup?

Michigan AG advice identifies the builder’s name, business name and supplied license number as useful identifiers for LARA verification.

Does insured mean a Michigan contractor guarantees the repair?

The AG advises asking what the insurance covers. Discuss the repair result and any written contractor promise separately; a directory entry supplies no guarantee.

For a rented home, confirm who can authorize alterations. In a shared building, ask about access and work rules. An area-wide construction period does not establish the age, condition or safety requirements of an individual home; check the property records and the specific project.
