Name the fence portion in the larger proposal
Troy’s Permit Requirements resource discusses a Fence Permit Application separately from the larger project-drawing context. It specifically addresses fences shown on those drawings. The actual residential proposal still needs direction from Building.
Identify the fence location, the sections staying and the sections proposed for change. Point to the main drawing that shows them, if there is one, and explain whether the provider’s quote includes that fence work. A general renovation label can otherwise leave the same fence treated as included by one person and outside the project by another.
Make the application responsibility explicit
Ask who will obtain Building’s answer about the fence component and its relationship to the larger project record. Keep the answer with the drawing reference, rather than relying on an informal assumption that another contractor has handled it.
Then align the provider’s scope with what was clarified: the actual fence task, any unresolved site information and the responsible contact. If the fence design changes while the larger proposal is being developed, preserve that change as a distinct question. This guide does not determine a permit requirement or apply unrelated commercial drawing rules to a household repair.
Does showing a fence on a Troy building drawing settle the fence application question?
Ask Building about the actual proposal. The resource discusses the fence submission separately, so its presence on the main drawing should not be treated as a verified answer about that component.
What should a quote say when fence work accompanies a larger renovation?
Identify the fence sections, the relevant drawing and who will obtain any outstanding city direction. State what the provider is pricing without assuming that the larger project authorizes the fence work.

For a rented home, confirm who can authorize alterations. In a shared building, ask about access and work rules. A citywide construction period does not establish the age, condition or safety requirements of an individual home; check the property records and the specific project.
