Give each condition a practical priority
Livonia’s Home Repair Program addresses substandard conditions and safety hazards. The Housing Rehabilitation Specialist reviews and prioritizes needed repairs. Use that conversation to establish the program scope instead of beginning with a preferred bundle of replacement products.
For each condition, identify the location, what you observe and how it affects use or access. Add an existing assessment or dated photograph when available. Keep the description factual: a door that does not close, for example, is a clearer starting point than an unexplained request to replace every door.
Leave program scope and private extras distinct
The published process uses contractor quotes and program review. It also notes dependence on retaining qualified contractors and that work cannot begin immediately after an eligibility decision. Ask the specialist what can be commissioned before privately committing to work or a provider.
Put optional style changes and future ideas in a separate part of the estimate. Ask which items the program will consider and which would require an independently authorized private arrangement. Neither a household’s eligibility nor funding, contractor selection or a start date has been established by this guide.
Can I choose a private repair package and assume Livonia’s program will pay?
Do not assume that. The city describes specialist prioritization and a contractor-quote process. Ask how the proposed work will be considered before relying on program payment or choosing a private package.
What should I separate from the condition list for program review?
Label discretionary finishes, style upgrades and future projects separately from observed conditions. The specialist can determine program priorities and eligibility; a provider’s optional line item does not make that decision.

For a rented home, confirm who can authorize alterations. In a shared building, ask about access and work rules. A citywide construction period does not establish the age, condition or safety requirements of an individual home; check the property records and the specific project.
