Name the document and the equipment or item it covers
Dearborn’s buying-and-selling FAQ distinguishes a heating-company equipment certificate from the City’s occupancy document. It also provides a residential inspection-report download route. Keep those record types distinct rather than treating any certificate as a summary of every repair.
For the item you want addressed, note the document issuer, date or reference and the equipment or location concerned. If a report lists several items, identify the relevant one directly. A brief quotation or reference in your own enquiry can avoid combining unrelated observations into one undefined scope.
Keep completion evidence separate from City document status
Ask a provider to describe the proposed work against that specific item. Keep its completion description or supplied record with the same reference. A private statement that work is finished should not silently replace a separate question about the City’s document status.
Use the City contact or report resource when a document is missing or its status is unclear. Ask the heating professional about equipment-specific information. This record preparation does not determine certificate validity, occupation or sale requirements, and it does not establish that the building or equipment is safe.
Is a Dearborn heating certificate the same document as the City occupancy certificate?
No. The City FAQ distinguishes those document types and their issuers. Ask the City or relevant professional which actual record is needed for the question.
What record reference should accompany a repair enquiry after a residential inspection?
Identify the report item, its location and any related equipment certificate reference. Keep the document date and issuer with the enquiry, using the City’s report resource where applicable.

For a rented home, confirm who can authorize alterations. In a shared building, ask about access and work rules. A citywide construction period does not establish the age, condition or safety requirements of an individual home; check the property records and the specific project.
