Washington directory

Washington State handyman and repair directory

This directory covers Washington State, not Washington, DC. Choose the project city, read the provider’s published territory and use Washington L&I’s business and tradesperson resources for the checks relevant to the work.

Washington State: choose the city, then the service

Seattle, Spokane, Tacoma and Vancouver are among the existing Washington State directory routes. Select the property’s city before interpreting a company’s service-area description. A Seattle result or a statewide navigation label does not establish an offer for another Washington address.

Use the city guide for local business information and the national service guide for the task itself. If the project is in Washington, DC, open the District of Columbia route instead. These are different directory jurisdictions, with different official verification resources.

Use L&I’s verification route for the business and tradesperson

Washington’s Department of Labor & Industries provides a verification route for contractor and business records and for specified tradespeople. Its guidance explains separate checks for business registration and trade certification. Use the route matching the proposed role; do not turn a directory card into a claim that a particular company or individual has been checked.

L&I lists contractor numbers, UBI numbers, and business or owner names as search identifiers. Ask for the precise identity behind a trading name and compare it with the proposal. A similar name is a reason to investigate further, not proof that the returned record belongs to the provider.

Carry the scope from the guide into the conversation

For mounting or assembly, record the product, attachment location and intended finish. For alterations or utility work, describe what will change and ask who is responsible for each part. Include access, removal and finishing so that the agreed scope can be read alongside any relevant qualification or property check.

The housing table below describes Washington State survey estimates, not the construction date or condition of your particular home. Use property records and the actual project when raising material or safety questions. An area-wide age band cannot establish whether a specific surface contains a hazardous material.

Washington project questions

Is this Washington page for Washington State or Washington, DC?

It is the Washington State hub, leading to places such as Seattle, Spokane, Tacoma and Vancouver. For a District of Columbia project, use the separate District hub and Washington city guide. Confirm the project location before using a provider or official resource.

How do I find a Washington L&I record when a listing uses a trading name?

Ask for the exact business identity and, where applicable, its contractor number or UBI. L&I’s guidance lists those identifiers and business or owner names as search options. Compare the returned record with the proposal; do not rely only on a similar display name.

For a rented home, confirm who can authorize alterations. In a shared building, ask about access and work rules. An area-wide construction period does not establish the age, condition or safety requirements of an individual home; check the property records and the specific project.
