Scope of door handle & hardware installation
Door-hardware installation may involve handles, locks, hinges, closers, or accessory fittings with different door preparations. Supply the product model and photographs of the existing hardware and door edge. Distinguish a compatible replacement from new drilling, alignment repairs, or changes to an access-control system, and agree on the final operation checks.
Identify the door and each fitting
List handles, locksets, hinges, closers, stops or other hardware and give the door type and thickness where known. Photograph the existing fittings and openings. A like-for-like replacement differs from preparing a new slab or changing to a product with another fixing arrangement. Ask the provider to confirm compatibility rather than assuming every handle fits every existing door.
Explain the operating problem
Say whether the aim is a cosmetic upgrade, improved function or repair of a latch that does not align. A sticking door or damaged frame may need door adjustment before new hardware will work properly. Describe any specialist context, such as a rated door or controlled-access opening, so the provider can assess whether the work is within its qualifications. Do not remove a safety function merely to make a fitting easier to install.
Define keys, adjustments and final checks
Agree on supplied hardware, removal, hole preparation and normal opening, latching and locking checks. Keying, electronic account setup and changes to an access-control system may need another service. Painting or repairing the old fixing area should be stated separately. A hardware replacement should not be described as a security certification or a guarantee that every part of the door assembly is sound.
Related work with a different scope
- Smart Home Security & Lock Installation: Smart locks and connected security hardware include account and access-control questions.
- General Door Installation & Repair: Replacing or repairing the whole door is a broader installation scope.
- Cabinet Door, Drawer Pull & Hardware Upgrades: Cabinet hardware concerns different products and mounting patterns.
Project questions
How can I tell whether new door hardware fits the existing preparation?
Send the product specifications and photographs of the current fittings and door edge. Ask the installer to assess compatibility before assuming the replacement uses the same holes and dimensions.
Does replacing a handle fix a door that will not latch?
Describe the latching problem separately. The cause may require alignment or door repairs beyond the handle replacement, so agree on diagnosis and the final operation checks.
