Scope of cabinet door, drawer pull & hardware upgrades
Cabinet-hardware upgrades may mean simple handle changes or a more involved adjustment of doors, drawers, hinges, and slides. List the cabinet locations, quantities, and replacement products. Explain whether existing holes must be reused or repaired, and discuss alignment and operation rather than treating every hinge, pull, and drawer mechanism as interchangeable.
Identify the hardware and existing cabinet
List the knobs, pulls, hinges, drawer hardware or replacement fronts you want fitted. Provide photographs of the cabinet construction and existing fixing positions, plus product dimensions and compatibility information. A like-for-like handle replacement differs from a new hole pattern, concealed hinge change or replacement door. Do not order a complete set on the assumption that every fitting uses the same spacing.
Agree on alignment and surface repairs
Show any sagging doors, damaged drawer boxes or worn mounting points before the quote. New handles do not repair an underlying cabinet fault. Ask how old holes, finish differences and unused fittings will be addressed. Filling and refinishing can remain visible and may need a separate finishing specialist; the provider should not promise an invisible repair without inspecting the actual surface.
Separate the upgrade from a cabinet rebuild
The proposal should name the fittings, quantities and normal opening or adjustment checks, together with any accepted removal or disposal. New cabinet carcasses, a changed kitchen layout and custom door fabrication are broader projects. Painting or staining all fronts should also be separately specified. At handover, review the replaced hardware and record any unresolved hinge, runner or structural issue rather than treating a cosmetic upgrade as a complete cabinet restoration.
Related work with a different scope
- Kitchen Cabinet Installation & Repair: New fitted cabinets or structural cabinet repair require a broader installation brief.
- Cabinet & Storage Cabinet Assembly: Assembling a purchased storage cabinet is a different furniture task.
Project questions
Can replacement cabinet pulls use the existing holes?
Provide the new hardware specifications and photographs or measurements of the existing fittings. Ask the installer to assess compatibility and identify any filling or new preparation needed.
What if the cabinet door still hangs unevenly after new hardware is fitted?
Describe the existing alignment problem when requesting the work. A pull replacement differs from adjusting hinges, repairing the door or replacing drawer slides, so include the intended operating result.
