Scope of kitchen cabinet installation & repair
Kitchen-cabinet work may be a repair to a door or drawer, replacement of individual units, or installation of a complete layout. Provide the cabinet plan and identify existing countertops, appliances, and utility connections. Distinguish cabinet fitting and adjustment from countertop work, plumbing, electrical changes, and repairs exposed when older units are removed.
New fitted cabinets or repairs to existing units?
Describe whether the project is a new cabinet layout, replacement of selected units or repair of an existing installation. Provide a plan, product details and photographs of the walls, floor and current cabinets. Identify base units, wall units, tall cabinets and trim pieces separately. A purchased cabinet package does not itself resolve measurements, support or coordination with the rest of the kitchen.
Coordinate cabinets with worktops and utilities
Ask who verifies dimensions and the condition of the supporting construction. Explain any existing sink, appliances, wiring or plumbing affected by the work. Countertop removal, new connections and utility relocation may require other providers. Do not assume a cabinet installer accepts those trades or that a visibly damaged unit can simply be refitted without assessing the reason for the damage.
Specify adjustment and finishing responsibilities
The proposal should identify accepted units, attachments, fillers, doors, drawers and normal adjustment checks. State whether painting, refinishing, handles and removal of old cabinetry are included. Replacing a few pulls or hinges can be a narrower hardware-upgrade job, while assembling a freestanding storage cabinet is ordinary furniture work. Record missing parts and remaining finish work rather than describing the entire kitchen as complete when adjacent stages remain unfinished.
Related work with a different scope
- Cabinet Door, Drawer Pull & Hardware Upgrades: Handle, hinge and drawer-hardware upgrades can be a smaller project.
- Cabinet & Storage Cabinet Assembly: Freestanding storage cabinets belong under purchased-furniture assembly.
- Custom Shelving & Bookcase Installation: Custom shelving and built-ins require a measured carpentry design.
Project questions
How should a small kitchen-cabinet repair be distinguished from a full installation?
Identify the affected door, drawer or unit and describe its fault. For a replacement layout, supply the cabinet plan and explain which existing units and finishes will remain.
Does kitchen-cabinet installation include countertops and appliance connections?
List countertop work, appliance handling, plumbing and electrical changes separately. Ask the installer to identify those boundaries and the process for repairs exposed when old cabinets are removed.
