Define the historical document question
Ventura Building and Safety says it maintains a historical permit and plan archive. Its published functions also include plan check, permit issuance and construction inspection. The archive is a route for asking about earlier work, rather than a guarantee that a complete record exists for every feature.
Give the property and identify the affected room, opening or earlier alteration. Include an approximate work date or record reference if known, clearly marking anything uncertain. Explain which drawing or detail you are trying to find instead of asking for a record without describing the project question.
Keep the current wall question for assessment
Photograph the current layout and identify the proposed change alongside the features you want retained. If a record is located, label its date and show where it appears to relate to the present room. Do not assume a historical drawing reveals every concealed condition or later alteration.
Ask an appropriate qualified professional and the City which assessment or review is needed for the actual proposal. Define the new work only after the record question and present-condition question are understood. This guide does not classify a wall, establish an as-built condition or determine permission to alter it.
Why identify the affected room in a Ventura archived-plan enquiry?
The room, opening and earlier work context help explain which construction document you are seeking. Include known references and approximate dates without assuming the archive contains a complete record for that feature.
Can an archived plan replace assessment of the wall now present?
No. A historical drawing and present construction are different evidence. Show the current room and proposed change and obtain appropriate assessment before deciding a wall or doorway alteration.

For a rented home, confirm who can authorize alterations. In a shared building, ask about access and work rules. A citywide construction period does not establish the age, condition or safety requirements of an individual home; check the property records and the specific project.
