Scope of picture & artwork hanging
Picture and artwork hanging should account for each item's size, weight, frame fittings, wall material, and preferred arrangement. Provide photographs and a layout or placement idea, especially for grouped pieces. Discuss the attachment method and final alignment with the installer, and identify heavy, valuable, or unusually shaped items before the visit.
Describe every object and the intended arrangement
List the artworks, frames or decorative objects and provide their dimensions and known weights. Show the back and existing hanging fittings where this can be done without risking the piece. A gallery arrangement, a single framed print and a heavy or fragile artwork can require different experience. If placement advice or a full layout is needed, request it rather than assuming hanging labor includes design.
Review the wall and access
Photograph the wall, surrounding furnishings and proposed positions. Ask how the provider will assess the supporting construction and appropriate attachment for each object. High locations, stairwells, masonry and restricted drilling can change access or scope. A valuable, unusually fragile or oversized piece may need specialist art handling; the directory does not certify that a general handyman can handle every work safely.
Agree on handling and the visible result
Specify unpacking, moving furniture, measuring the arrangement and any patching of previous holes. Ask who supplies fittings and how damaged frames or unsuitable existing hangers will be handled. Review the final positions before the appointment is treated as complete. Frame restoration, conservation, electrical work for illuminated art and insurance of the object are separate questions, not automatic parts of hanging a picture.

Project questions
What information helps an installer plan a gallery wall?
Provide item sizes, frame fittings, wall photographs and a proposed arrangement. Identify unusually heavy or valuable pieces and agree on spacing before the attachment positions are chosen.
Should artwork hanging include repairing previous fixing holes?
Request filling or cosmetic repairs explicitly and describe the wall finish. Hanging and aligning new pieces does not automatically include restoring holes left by an earlier arrangement.
