Describe the residential change before choosing the resource

A purchased storage cabinet may require assembly, while a request to alter built-in storage involves a different description of the property and the finished result. Explain which item you have, what will remain in place and whether anything is to be attached, removed or changed. Ask the business to identify the parts of the request it accepts.

For a larger remodeling proposal, keep the affected rooms and components visible in the scope. A broad “handyman” label does not answer every project question. Use the task guides to organize the request and the appropriate official source to investigate the questions raised by the actual work.

Use Alabama’s consumer tools and resolve uncertain matches

Alabama HBLB’s consumer hub links license lookup, hiring guidance, disciplinary information and complaint resources. Choose the relevant tool for the record you want to investigate.

If a builder cannot be found on its web list, HBLB advises contacting the Board to verify status. An unclear or absent match is a reason to seek clarification, rather than for this directory to declare a business licensed or unlicensed.

Choose the Alabama location before asking about a visit

Birmingham, Huntsville, Montgomery and Mobile have individual city guides. Open the relevant route and read a business’s published area before asking it to visit. Appearance in Alabama navigation does not establish travel between those places or acceptance of every residential task.

Give the business the exact address, the work list and any product information. Keep its response with the quotation so that location and scope are checked together. Record questions about affected fixtures or additional work as open questions; the directory cannot resolve them from a city name or business category.

Alabama project questions

What if I cannot find an Alabama builder in HBLB’s web list?

HBLB says to contact its office to verify status when the builder is absent from the web list. Use the Board’s current contact details.

Does an Alabama city guide establish a business’s residential building credentials?

No. The city guide organizes locations and published business information. Use the appropriate official record for a credential inquiry and confirm the proposed work directly with the business; neither the city label nor a service guide settles that question.

For a rented home, confirm who can authorize alterations. In a shared building, ask about access and work rules. An area-wide construction period does not establish the age, condition or safety requirements of an individual home; check the property records and the specific project.
