Exterior & outdoor
Outdoor work can begin with a damaged structure, a supplied kit or a new build. The right guide helps separate the item from the site work and the responsibilities around it.
Start with the existing structure or new product
A repair enquiry should describe the structure that will remain. Start with deck and patio repair for an existing surface or fence installation and repair for that boundary feature. A boxed structure such as a shed has its own assembly and installation guide. A new deck, a gutter task and a kit do not become one interchangeable outdoor service simply because they are outside.
Describe the site before requesting a build
Show where the work is proposed, how the item or materials can reach it, and what surface or structure is already there. Explain gates, narrow passages, stairs and nearby features that must remain accessible. Share the selected product and any site information already prepared.
For a proposed build, identify questions still needing confirmation: property boundaries, attachment to the home, underground services and applicable approvals. Ask who resolves each one. Do not assume that an empty area is ready for construction or that a kit supplier’s illustration establishes site suitability.
Draw the line around removal and restoration
Compare proposals by their endpoints. Removing an existing structure, preparing a base, assembling a product, connecting services, applying a finish and restoring disturbed areas are separate matters to agree. State which are needed and which have already been arranged.
For repair, describe affected components and visible damage without claiming a structural diagnosis. If the request is only coating or cleaning, say whether any suspected deterioration has been assessed. Ask how findings outside the agreed scope will be handled before additional work proceeds.
Use the narrower route before contacting a business
Select the narrower outdoor guide below, then use state and city pages to explore the directory. Confirm the business’s scope and service area. Supplied-product work may overlap with assembly; recurring upkeep belongs with maintenance. Describe each stage so a provider can accept the parts it actually performs.
Questions about exterior & outdoor
What is different about repairing a deck and planning a new one?
A repair brief identifies what exists, the affected parts and what should be retained. A new-build brief also needs the proposed size, layout, site and unresolved design decisions. The two requests should not be compared solely by a broad deck-work label.
Does an outdoor-kit assembly request include ground preparation?
Specify ground or foundation preparation separately from putting the kit together. Provide the product requirements and current site condition, then ask who checks suitability and accepts each stage.
What should an exterior project brief say about access?
Describe the route from delivery to the work area, including gates, steps and restricted passages. Show nearby surfaces or planting to protect. Access information helps define handling and restoration responsibilities without assuming a particular method.
