Scope of light timer installation
A light timer may be a plug-in device, a wall control, or part of a broader lighting system. Supply the model and describe the fixtures and schedule it will control. Clarify installation, compatible electrical connections, programming, and a demonstration of operation, and use the appropriate electrical trade where the work exceeds normal user setup.
Countdown, clock schedule or smart routine?
Describe what the timer should control and how you want it to behave. A countdown control, scheduled wall timer, plug-in product and app-based routine are different solutions. Give the product and lighting models if already selected. The installer should understand whether the task is fitting a purchased device or recommending a compatible arrangement, rather than assuming any timer can control any load.
Separate configuration from fixed wiring
Explain whether the existing lighting is plug-in or connected to fixed wiring. Ask an appropriately qualified provider to assess the selected control, supply and load under the manufacturer's instructions and local requirements. A scheduling feature does not make electrical alterations ordinary device setup. New wiring, enclosure changes or correcting an existing fault should be explicitly included or assigned to another provider.
Agree on the schedule to demonstrate
Write down the intended on-and-off behavior and ask which settings will be shown at handover. Clock setup, daylight adjustments, manual override and app access depend on the actual product; avoid assuming every timer has all of them. Keep account ownership under your control. An unresolved compatibility problem or a light that still fails needs to remain documented, while future schedule changes and network support can be separate services.

Project questions
Is a plug-in light timer installed the same way as a wall timer?
Identify the timer model and controlled fixtures. A wall control or integrated system may need electrical work beyond ordinary device setup, which the provider should assess explicitly.
Should a light-timer installation include programming the schedule?
Provide the schedule and operating result you want. Ask the proposal to include compatible setup, programming and a demonstration, while distinguishing configuration from any required electrical modifications.
