Define the entrance task and its end-of-visit condition
Identify the entrance feature needing routine attention and describe the concern already observed. Say what ordinary access result you want assessed, which parts are intended to remain and whether an earlier work record is available. Do not substitute a general shelter-maintenance label for the actual feature.
Ask the provider what it can assess and what work it accepts. At handover, identify completed entrance work separately from an unresolved condition or a later proposed task. A maintenance invoice should not be described as a structural assessment or a certification of shelter safety.
Keep the personal check-in arrangement independent of the work visit
Ada warns that responders may be delayed after damaging storms and advises a friend or family safety check. Registration and a contractor visit do not replace that personal arrangement.
Keep the named household check-in responsibility independent of who attends for repairs. If entrance work remains unfinished, explain that in the ordinary work handover rather than implying the contractor will return after a storm. This preparation establishes no rescue attendance, safe-entry decision or emergency service from a directory listing.
Questions about this project
Does Ada’s shelter registration replace a personal post-storm check-in contact?
The City advises identifying a friend or family member who can check on you because responders may not be immediately available. Registration does not promise attendance.
What should a shelter-entrance maintenance handover make clear?
Identify the entrance feature, completed work and any unresolved access task. Record the ordinary responsibility actually accepted; keep the household’s personal check-in plan separate from that repair handover.

For a rented home, confirm who can authorize alterations. In a shared building, ask about access and work rules. A citywide construction period does not establish the age, condition or safety requirements of an individual home; check the property records and the specific project.
