Choose the existing-home section of the resource
Lawrence’s homeowner resource separately labels Rehabilitation/Deleading and First Time Home Buyers programs. The former concerns existing property conditions; the latter concerns a purchase. Those headings do not establish current eligibility, intake or financial terms for a household.
Say whether you are asking about conditions in a home already owned or about buying a property. If earlier program information has been supplied, keep its name and date visible rather than transferring its terms to another type of inquiry. Community Development can identify the relevant current conversation.
Describe conditions before choosing a funded package
Describe each affected room or feature and what has been observed. Keep any prior professional assessment with those notes, distinguishing a reported condition from a cause that has not been established. This guide does not determine whether a hazardous material is present or describe its removal.
List appearance preferences separately from the condition needing assessment. If a provider prepares a proposal, identify which tasks are merely being priced and which have actually been authorized. Ask the city what it needs to review before making a repair depend on assistance; a private estimate does not settle the program’s accepted scope.
Are Lawrence’s homebuyer and rehabilitation descriptions interchangeable for repair funding?
No. The city presents different purposes. Ask Community Development about the actual existing-home question rather than applying purchase-assistance descriptions to a repair proposal.
What should I bring to an existing-home rehabilitation conversation?
Bring a concise description of locations, observed conditions and any prior assessment, then ask about the current process and accepted scope. Keep sensitive financial information within the city’s confirmed application process.

For a rented home, confirm who can authorize alterations. In a shared building, ask about access and work rules. A citywide construction period does not establish the age, condition or safety requirements of an individual home; check the property records and the specific project.
