Use the H-1 map for the property question
Lexington publishes H-1 overlay district and landmark maps through its Historic Preservation resources. Use that official route when asking about a particular property, and seek staff clarification where the address or boundary is uncertain. This page does not determine whether a home is designated.
Keep the address and the proposed change together. A house’s age, a familiar district name or another property’s treatment does not establish the answer for your own feature. Record the source of any property-specific guidance you receive rather than rely on a nearby example.
Keep neighborhood character separate from the repair specification
Show the existing feature and identify the part you want retained, assessed or replaced. For a visible detail, note the material, profile and finish, with an overall view and a close comparison where one is readily available.
Ask the provider for a description of the proposed result that can be compared with the current condition. Keep a product substitution or change in appearance explicit. The property-designation question belongs with the city; the assessment of the actual feature and the business’s proposed work need their own clear scope.
Does an older Lexington-Fayette house automatically fall in H-1?
No. Age alone does not establish an H-1 designation. Check the actual property through Lexington’s official maps and preservation staff rather than infer status from the appearance of the house or neighborhood.
What should accompany a question about an exterior repair?
Provide the address, photographs of the existing feature and a specific account of what would change. That supports a focused discussion without claiming that the proposal is complete or approved.

For a rented home, confirm who can authorize alterations. In a shared building, ask about access and work rules. A citywide construction period does not establish the age, condition or safety requirements of an individual home; check the property records and the specific project.
